Bark Air is the world's first airline designed specifically for dogs, the pet travels in the cabin, not the hold, on a private aircraft configured for canine comfort. FFGR Italia is the Italian ground partner for Bark Air: we meet clients and their dogs at FCO (Rome) or MXP (Milan) on arrival, manage customs and veterinary documentation, and provide FFGR chauffeur service for the onward Italy journey.
Bark Air | How It Works
Bark Air (founded 2024, New York) operates charter flights on which the dog is the primary passenger. The aircraft configuration: padded floor area for the dog, adjacent seat for the owner, ample cargo space for travel accessories. Routes as of 2026: New York JFK to London Stansted (STN) and London to New York, Los Angeles LAX to Tokyo, and the Italy routes, New York to Milan (MXP) bi-weekly, Los Angeles to Rome (FCO) weekly. All flights are private or semi-private (maximum 2 pet-owner pairs per aircraft).
Pricing (2026): New York to Milan from $6,000 per dog one-way; Los Angeles to Rome from $8,000. The human seat is included, it is not an additional charge. Booking: minimum 14 days advance. FFGR Italia is listed as the recommended Italian ground partner on the Bark Air concierge page.
Italian Pet Import Requirements | FFGR Pre-Arrival Management
Italy (EU member) requires for pet entry: ISO 11784/11785 microchip, valid rabies vaccination (minimum 21 days before entry, maximum 1 year validity), EU Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel, and, for non-EU origin, additional parasite treatment documentation. Failure to present complete documentation at the veterinary control point (UCE, Ufficio di Confine per gli Animali da Compagnia) results in quarantine.
FFGR Italia manages the pre-arrival documentation review: we receive the pet health records 72h before arrival, verify compliance with Italian UCE requirements, and coordinate with the Bark Air vet team if corrections are needed. On arrival day, our agent accompanies the client and dog through the UCE checkpoint, a process that typically takes 15-25 minutes with correct documentation.
FCO and MXP Private Terminal Arrival with Dogs
Bark Air flights arrive at the private terminal (GA apron) at both FCO (Ciampino CIA for Rome, Fiumicino T5 private area) and MXP (Malpensa Prime, Terminal 2 private sector). FFGR Italia arranges: FFGR dog-friendly Rolls-Royce Ghost or Mercedes V-Class (rear seat area cleared and padded), portable water bowl and treats from FFGR standard dog kit, 30-minute post-arrival park walk before the long-distance ground transfer if needed.
For mandates including Italian travel by private yacht or helicopter, we coordinate the dog's comfort logistics for each leg: yacht deck configuration (non-slip matting, shaded area), helicopter noise exposure management (ear protection for dogs available), and villa arrangements (no-chemical lawn, private pool fencing, on-call veterinarian network in Rome, Milan, Florence, Lake Como, and Sardinia).

Our standard dog-friendly Italy mandate (7 nights): Rome arrival FCO (UCE clearance, Villa Borghese morning walk), Amalfi Coast by FFGR Rolls-Royce (dog-friendly agriturismo near Ravello, private garden), Capri day trip by private Riva (dog permitted on private charter boats, not public ferries), Lake Como (Bellagio promenade, Villa d'Este garden access for FFGR clients with pre-arranged dog policy), departure MXP Malpensa Prime.
Hotels with confirmed dog policies for FFGR clients: Bulgari Roma (dogs up to 30kg), J.K. Place Roma (under 10kg, ground floor rooms preferred), Grand Hotel Tremezzo Lake Como (any size, lakeside lawn), Il San Pietro di Positano (outdoor terraces, no size restriction for FFGR mandates). We verify and negotiate the policy as part of the pre-mandate preparation.
