Taormina sits at 250m above the Ionian Sea between Catania and Messina: its 2,300-year-old Greek theatre, the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, and an unbroken view of Mount Etna have made it the most internationally recognised address in Sicily. FFGR Italia manages CTA airport arrivals, private villa access in the Taormina hills, and Etna sunrise helicopter circuits.
San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel
The San Domenico Palace (Piazza San Domenico 5) was a 15th-century Dominican monastery before its conversion to a hotel. The Four Seasons management (operative since 2021 after a 4-year renovation) has preserved the monastery's original cloister, chapter house, and frescoed chapel as public spaces. 111 rooms and suites: the top-floor Terrace Suites have direct Etna and sea views from private terraces of 60-120m².
FFGR Italia coordinates San Domenico arrivals from CTA (Catania Fontanarossa, 1h10 by Rolls-Royce), PMO (Palermo, 2h30), and the Taormina-Giardini Naxos port for yacht clients. The hotel's dedicated parking is private and gated: no street exposure for VIP arrivals.
Teatro Antico di Taormina | Private Access
The Teatro Antico di Taormina (3rd century BC, rebuilt by Romans in the 2nd century AD) is one of the best-preserved Greek theatres in the world and the second largest in Sicily after Agrigento. Its stage faces northeast: Etna on the left horizon, the Ionian Sea through the central arch. The theatre is used for live performances (Taormina Arte festival, July-August) and hosts 5,000 spectators at capacity.
FFGR Italia arranges private pre-opening access (07:00, before the public arrives at 09:00) with an archaeological guide for a 90-minute circuit of the cavea, orchestra, and Roman additions. Evening private events within the theatre are possible with a cultural authority permit, we manage the permit application for corporate and private mandates.
Etna Sunrise Helicopter | Silvestri Crater at Dawn
Mount Etna (3,357m) is the highest active volcano in Europe and the most continuously active in the world. The Silvestri Craters (1,900m) are accessible by road; the summit craters (variable, currently Bocca Nuova and Voragine at ~3,200m) require helicopter access. FFGR arranges sunrise helicopter circuits from CTA airport or the Taormina helipad, departure at 05:30, summit at 06:00, return by 07:30 for San Domenico breakfast.
The circuit includes: Bocca Nuova crater overflight (active lava field visible from 150m altitude), the Valle del Bove eastern escarpment (8km-wide caldera, 1,200m deep), and the 2021 lava flow corridor. Flight time: 45 minutes. Capacity: up to 6 passengers (AW109 configuration). Subject to volcanic activity status, we monitor INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) alerts daily.
Catania Airport VIP | CTA Logistics
Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) is Sicily's busiest airport. The Aviazione Generale terminal (GA apron, east side) handles business jets and charters. FFGR Italia holds airside access clearance, we meet clients at the aircraft steps and transfer directly without public terminal passage. The standard arrival protocol: aircraft parks GA apron, FFGR Rolls-Royce enters airside, client transfer to vehicle, 55-minute drive to Taormina via A18 motorway.
Peak season (July-August): CTA GA apron fills quickly, we pre-book parking slots 48h in advance for confirmed mandates. Alternative: helicopter relay from CTA to Taormina helipad (8 minutes, AW109, arranged concurrently with ground vehicle for luggage).
