Naples VIP Services — Tarmac to Capri, Pompeii & the Logic of the South

April 26, 2026 · 8 min read · FFGR Italia VIP Team

Naples is the gateway to the south of Italy and one of the most misunderstood cities in Europe. Its traffic is not chaos — it has a logic, it is just a local one. Its airport (Capodichino) is 7 kilometres from the port, and the port is the departure point for Capri, Ischia, Amalfi, and Positano. Understanding how these pieces connect is what separates a missed ferry from a perfect morning.

Capodichino Airport — The First 20 Minutes

Naples Capodichino (NAP) is 7 km from the Molo Beverello port — but 7 km in Naples traffic is not 7 km anywhere else. In morning rush hour (7am to 10am) and evening (5pm to 8pm), the Corso Umberto I and Piazza Garibaldi corridor that connects the airport to the port can add 40 minutes to what should be a 15-minute transfer. Our drivers know the alternative routing via the Tangenziale ring road that bypasses the centro storico entirely when ferry timing is tight.

The VIP arrivals procedure at Capodichino runs through the business aviation terminal on the east side of the airport. For clients arriving by private jet, our driver is at the FBO apron, not in the public arrivals hall — the difference is significant when the next commitment is a 10am hydrofoil to Capri.

Molo Beverello & the Ferry Connections

Molo Beverello is Naples' main ferry terminal. Hydrofoils to Capri depart every 30 to 50 minutes in season (journey: 50 minutes). Ferries to Ischia depart hourly (journey: 90 minutes). Private boat to Positano, coordinated through our operations desk, departs from the Mergellina dock (45 minutes journey time to Positano beach). Our dock agent at Beverello confirms departure times, manages luggage check-through to the vessel, and has direct contact with the Capri taxi coordinator at Marina Grande.

For clients with tight connections — private jet landing at 9:30am and the 10:00am Capri hydrofoil — our dock agent pre-boards luggage and holds the ticket while the client is still in the vehicle. The 30 minutes between airport and hydrofoil is achievable; the 20-minute version is not. We tell you this before you book.

Naples City — Luxury in the Chaos

Naples' most appropriate luxury hotel bases for UHNW clients are Grand Hotel Vesuvio (Lungomare Caracciolo, facing the bay), Hotel Excelsior (same seafront), and Romeo Hotel (near Molo Beverello, preferred for early ferry departures). All three are outside the ZTL but close enough to the historic centre for our drivers to access the Piazza del Plebiscito cultural zone with NCC authorization.

The Teatro di San Carlo — the oldest continuously active opera house in Europe — has VIP client management for performances that includes backstage access and private dining at the Gambrinus café next door. We coordinate performance transfers and the post-opera extraction, which requires patience and a pre-positioned vehicle.

Pompeii & the Archaeological Circuit

Pompeii is 25 minutes from Naples on the A3. For UHNW clients, the correct approach is pre-booked private archaeologist-guided access before public opening — the site opens at 9am, private guided groups can enter from 7am with advance permission from the Pompeii Parco Archeologico administration. At 7am in July, Pompeii is cooler, completely empty, and lit by horizontal morning light rather than the overhead August glare.

Herculaneum (Ercolano) is smaller, better preserved, and 10 minutes closer to Naples than Pompeii — the correct choice for clients with limited time or those who have already visited Pompeii. The Oplontis villas at Torre Annunziata, less known and rarely on standard tours, can be added to a Herculaneum morning for clients who want depth. Back to Naples in time for lunch at Palazzo Petrucci on the Piazza San Domenico Maggiore.

The Amalfi Gateway

Naples is the practical staging point for the Amalfi Coast even for clients who intend to stay on the coast — because the international flight connections are better (two Ryanair and easyJet hubs plus Alitalia and BA connections) and the A3 motorway offers a faster approach to the SP163 coastal road than any alternative. Naples to Amalfi by road via A3 and then the SP163 junction takes 2 hours in light traffic.

The alternative — Naples to Amalfi by private boat — takes 45 minutes from Mergellina and eliminates the road entirely. For clients arriving at Capodichino with luggage that must reach a hotel on the Amalfi Coast, we run a split transfer: our vehicle takes the client via the coastal approach while a separate luggage van uses the Chiunzi mountain pass route (less scenic, no traffic, 20 minutes faster).

How to Book

Book the airport transfer and the dock transfer together — they are one logistics sequence, not two separate bookings. Our concierge pre-books ferry tickets at the time of transfer booking; you do not purchase separately and risk being on different vessels from your luggage. For Pompeii private access, 5 days advance is the minimum; the archaeology administration does not confirm same-day requests.

For clients who wish to use Naples as an overnight base for Amalfi Coast day trips — a practical choice for families with airport connections — we configure a daily rotation: morning departure by sea or road to the coast, return by evening. The Naples base hotel is confirmed simultaneously with the day-trip boat or vehicle.
