Positano Luxury Travel — How to Arrive, Where to Stay & How to Leave Without the Queue

April 26, 2026 · 7 min read · FFGR Italia VIP Team

Positano is built on a cliff. The main street — Via Cristoforo Colombo — is pedestrian-only below the church. No car reaches the beach. No standard taxi waits. What looks like a village is actually one of Europe's most complex micro-logistical environments. This guide explains how FFGR Italia navigates it.

The Drop-Off Problem

Via Pasitea is the only road in Positano on which authorized NCC vehicles may travel in the direction of the lower village. It reaches as far as the Via Cristoforo Colombo junction — beyond that, the road narrows and is pedestrian-only. Le Sirenuse hotel is accessed from the upper Via Cristoforo Colombo with a precise stop-and-unload window managed by the hotel doormen; Buca di Bacco, directly on the beach, requires pre-coordination with hotel staff who control the lower unloading area.

For clients with significant luggage — which is most of our clients — we operate a luggage relay: the vehicle stops at the highest permitted point on Via Pasitea, a dedicated porter team takes the bags on the integrated trolley system down the stepped paths to the hotel, and the client descends at their own pace. This is not a workaround. It is the only way. Any transfer service promising car delivery to the Positano beach without this system has not done it.

Arriving by Boat

A private boat from Naples reaches Positano in 45 minutes — faster than the road in July and August. From Capri, the crossing is 35 minutes. From Amalfi, 20 minutes. The Positano boat dock at the Spiaggia Grande beach is the only sea-level entry to the lower village — every hotel on the beach is within 100 metres of the dock. For clients arriving by superyacht, the tender lands at the dock and our ground partner meets the party with porter service and a pre-planned hotel escort.

We coordinate the boat arrival with the hotel concierge to confirm arrival time and luggage handling. For the return journey — hotel to dock to boat — we run the same coordination in reverse, with the departure timed to the boat captain's schedule and the client's next commitment.

Helicopter — Pontecagnano to Positano

The nearest helipad to Positano is above the village at the top of the Via Cristoforo Colombo ridge. From Pontecagnano airport (near Salerno, 45 minutes south of Naples by road), the flight is 8 minutes. The helipad is coordinated with advance booking — we arrange this through our aviation desk simultaneously with the ground transfer.

From the Positano helipad, a hotel minibus or porter service descends to the property. For clients with heavy luggage, the helicopter is especially practical: bags go into the helicopter hold, arrive at the helipad, and are delivered to the hotel via the trolley relay without the client handling them at any point from aircraft door to hotel suite.

In-Village Logistics

Our Positano ground partner operates a small fleet of electric minibuses and a dedicated porter team for villa and hotel clients who need in-village mobility. Beach club reservations — at La Sponda beach (Il San Pietro di Positano), at Franco's Bar terrace, at the Da Adolfo boat club reachable only by the restaurant's own boat — are handled by our concierge desk as part of the Positano package.

For dinner reservations, the most sought-after tables in Positano — Il San Pietro, La Sponda at Le Sirenuse, Rada — are booked through our concierge desk with 7 to 14 days advance notice in peak season. Last-minute requests in July and August for any of these are not realistic without pre-existing relationships, which we have.

Day Excursions from Positano

Positano is ideally positioned for Amalfi Coast day excursions. By private boat: Capri in 35 minutes, Ravello by car up the SP371 from the Minori valley in 45 minutes with our SP363 specialist driver, Amalfi by boat in 20 minutes for the Duomo and the paper shops. The Furore fjord, one of the most photogenic coves on the coast, is 20 minutes by boat and rarely visited before 9am.

For a day combining Ravello and Amalfi from Positano: boat to Amalfi (20 min), car to Ravello (25 min from Amalfi), private garden access at Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo, return by road to Amalfi, boat back to Positano. Total day: 10am to 6pm, manageable without rushing. Our Amalfi desk coordinates all three elements.

How to Book

Sea and land transfers should be confirmed simultaneously — the boat arrival time and the porter relay are interdependent. Le Sirenuse and Villa Treville have specific drop-off protocols that our drivers know; confirm your hotel at the time of booking and we apply the correct procedure without prompting.

For July and August, book the complete Positano transfer package — arrival boat or car, porter relay, hotel concierge coordination — a minimum of 7 days ahead. For day excursions from Positano, 48 hours is standard; for the private boat circuit (Capri, Furore fjord, Amalfi), 5 days in peak season.
