Venice has no streets. The city's transport logic inverts everything the mainland traveller knows: distance is measured in minutes on water, not kilometres on asphalt. A private transfer to Venice is not a luxury add-on — it is the first act of the Venetian experience, and the difference between arriving at a public vaporetto stop with luggage and stepping directly from a mahogany water taxi onto a private hotel dock is the difference between visiting Venice and inhabiting it.
The Water Taxi Fleet: Classique, Premium Italia, VIP Executive
FFGR operates three categories of private water taxi in Venice. The Classique — a 1970s mahogany Venetian taxi, fully restored — seats 6 with two pieces of luggage each. The Premium Italia — a 2019 custom-built fiberglass hull with leather interior — seats 8 and carries up to 12 bags. The VIP Executive — a 2022 8-metre Venetian runabout with panoramic canopy — seats 4 in armchair configuration and is the preferred vessel for canal-front hotel arrivals at the Gritti Palace, Aman Venice, or Bauer Palazzo.
All three vessels are licensed by the Comune di Venezia (licence series VE-NLT) and operate under the 7-knot Grand Canal speed restriction — a regulation FFGR chauffeurs observe precisely, preserving palazzo facades and arriving at the exact moment of expected delivery, not 4 minutes early (which triggers dock staff confusion) and never late.
Arrivals: Marco Polo Airport, Treviso, and the Fusina Option
Marco Polo Airport (VCE) sits on the mainland 13 km north of Venice. The standard tourist route — Alilaguna water bus, 80 minutes — is excluded from FFGR service. FFGR operates the private motor launch from the Marco Polo water taxi dock (Pontile dei Taxi, departures every 20 minutes from the main terminal boat dock) directly to the client's hotel water entrance. Transit time: 25 minutes to the Dorsoduro district, 30 minutes to Cannaregio, 32 minutes to San Marco.
Treviso Airport (TSF, Ryanair and low-cost charters) requires a mainland vehicle transfer first — FFGR operates a Mercedes-Benz V-Class from the TSF arrivals to the Fusina Terminal (Marghera, 8 km), where a private water taxi takes over for the 25-minute lagoon crossing. Total transit: 45 minutes. This is the preferred routing for private charter arrivals to TSF.
Hotel Dock Arrivals: The 14 Private Entrances
Only 14 hotels in Venice have operational private water docks — entrances accessible exclusively by private vessel, invisible from the public calli. FFGR has authorisation to dock at all 14: Aman Venice (Palazzo Papadopoli, private dock on Rio dei Tolentini), Gritti Palace (Grand Canal direct dock, sunrise approach visible from Accademia bridge), Hotel Cipriani/Belmond (Giudecca island, 4-minute shuttle from San Marco, private dock at Fondamenta San Giovanni), and the Bauer Palazzo (Grand Canal private entrance, 100 metres from St Mark's Square).
The invisible arrival — stepping from a mahogany water taxi directly into a private hotel entrance — requires coordination between FFGR's water captain, the hotel dock concierge, and the luggage team. FFGR communicates ETA 12 minutes prior to arrival; the hotel dock team is in position 8 minutes prior. No waiting at the dock edge. No luggage transferred over public calli.
Venice by Night: Bacino San Marco and Gondola Serenata Logistics
An after-dinner circuit of the Bacino San Marco by private water taxi — the open lagoon basin in front of the Doge's Palace — reads the city at its most cinematic. FFGR operates evening circuits of 45 minutes at 21:00 and 22:30, timed to the post-sunset illumination of the Biblioteca Marciana, the Campanile, and the Santa Maria della Salute from the water. Routes pass through the Grand Canal, Giudecca Canal, and the San Giorgio Maggiore circuit.
Gondola Serenata performances (traditional serenade with two singers and accordion, operated by the Associazione Gondolieri Venezia) run Tuesday and Friday evenings from April to October. FFGR coordinates the gondola boarding at Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs) — a private boarding point unavailable through standard booking channels — with the water taxi following at discreet distance for post-serenade hotel return.
